THURSDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 446 NEW CASES, 13 DEATHS - Calhoun Appears To Have 10-12 New Cases This Week

(04/09/2021)
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 13 new COVID-19 deaths in the state Thursday and 446 new positive cases.

Covid cases are on the rise in many US states, likely due to the variant that has arrived, including WV.

It appears Calhoun has 10-12 new cases so far this week.

While Gov. Jim Justice says "Vaccinate, Vaccinate, Vaccinate," some epidemiologists believe WV will not be able to reach the 85% for herd immunity, citing dozens of conspiracy theories circulated on the internet, many of them politically driven.

A state report now indicates that Calhoun has a 28.7% immunization rates with the State of WV having a 36% rate.

Social scientists have said that many West Virginia mountain people "Have never seen a conspiracy theory they didn't like."

A new national study finds that more than 1 in 3 COVID-19 survivors have been diagnosed with neurological or psychological conditions.

The active case total in West Virginia increased by 84 Thursday, with 6,981 cases. The overall positive test rate slightly decreased from 5.24% to 5.23% and the daily positive test rate increased from 3.76% to 3.77%.

The state has had 2,735 deaths from the virus since the start of the pandemic.

As of Wednesday, hospitalizations were at 267, including 89 people in intensive care and 16 on ventilators.

There have been 538,123 West Virginians receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines while 369,896 have been fully vaccinated.
