FRIDAY WV COVID-19 RECORD HIGH CASES STRIKES 500 - Nursing Home, Public School Outbreaks

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 498 COVID-19 cases and three additional deaths in its report on Friday, a record high.

Rising COVID-19 case numbers have prompted stay-home advisory in Cabell County while other counties try to keep up with contact tracing.

There are 43 new outbreaks in long-term care units with public schools having 21 new outbreaks.

More coronavirus cases have been reported at Cabell's Mildred-Bateman hospital that’s already dealing with an outbreak.

According to Dr. Ayne Amjad, West Virginia’s state health officer, there are now 39 staff who have tested positive and 24 patients as of Friday, October 16. Cabell County is in green on state map, lowest risk category.

Multiple associates at the Crossings Shopping Center Kroger location in Elkview have tested positive for COVID-19.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of 10 a.m., October 16, 2020, there have been 666,717 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 19,580 (+498) total cases and 396 (+3) deaths.

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 67-year old female from Mercer County, a 58-year old male from Mingo County, and a 75-year old male from Fayette County.

According to officials, Friday’s WV dashboard includes a large increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and laboratory results received over the past 24 hours.
