CMHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN MOU - Moving Onward And Upward Program

Five students from Calhoun Middle-High School were selected to participate in the Moving Onward and Upward program (MOU) through a partnership with the Northern WV Rural Health Education Center (NWVRHEC) and Minnie Hamilton Health System (MHHS). The MOU program provides an opportunity for high school students to explore health career interests through active participation in a health center environment where they experience a variety of job skills through "hands-on" learning and mentoring.

Through structured weekly meetings and the completion of health research projects, they also learn about research, public health and the education and training necessary for entry into health sciences professions. Upon successful completion of the MOU program, students become eligible to receive a $500 stipend. The program runs from November through April and includes a trip to West Virginia University. Students participating are Jaida Ferrell, Madison Gribble, Makayla Siers, Isabella Stump, and Jordan Yoak.

Makayla Siers, CMHS senior, is the daughter of Todd and Teresa Siers of Chloe, WV. Makayla is a member of Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and is a dual enrollment student. Makayla plans to attend Fairmont State University upon graduation to major in nursing. She would like to be a registered nurse working at UHC in labor and delivery. She loves helping others and activities with her church family.

Isabella Stump, CMHS junior, is a daughter of Neil and Gina Stump of Grantsville, WV. Her school activities include varsity football cheerleader and varsity wrestling mat maid/statistician. A high school honor is that she attended WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Brain Camp summer 2019 and plans to apply for summer 2020. Ellie is undecided on a university at this time, but plans to major in nursing. Her ultimate career goal is to be an ER nurse, midwife, or nurse practitioner. She enjoys traveling with her family, hunting with her dad and brothers, and attending wrestling tournaments.

Jaida Ferrell, CMHS senior, is the daughter of Scott and Angie Ferrell of Mt. Zion, WV. Jaida is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. Her school activities are band and student council. Jaida is undecided on a college at this point, but plans to major in nursing/radiology tech. Jaida has been selected for a Dean's Scholarship at Wheeling Jesuit. Her career goal is to be a radiology tech or a labor and delivery nurse. She enjoys spending time in the mountains, fishing, kayaking, and with her horse.

Jordan Yoak, CMHS junior, is the son of Eddie and Donna Yoak of Grantsville, WV. His school honors include National Spanish Honor Society, Math Field Day placer, Social Studies Fair winner, attended the 2019 World Scouting Jamboree with attendees from over 100 countries. and is an BSA Eagle Scout. His school activities include Aquaponics, baseball, Boy Scouts, Health Science Technology Academy (HSTA), and Wood Festival Committee. He plans to graduate high school with an Associates Degree and then attend West Virginia University to major in biology and minor in chemistry. He then would like to attend WVU to attend medical school to become a cardiologist. He enjoys being outdoors, camping, and kayaking. He enjoys helping plan the annual Wood Festival. He loves helping others especially through healthcare.

Madison Gribble, CMHS junior, is the daughter of Steve Gribble and Samantha Justice of Chloe, WV. Her high school honor is being a member of Spanish Honor Society. Her school activities include Aquaponics. She plans to attend NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, to major in nursing and minor in psychology. Her ultimate career goal is to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. She enjoys reading, writing, kayaking, and spending time with her friends and friends.
