The Spencer-Roane and numerous other fire departments, including the Arnoldsburg VFD, have responded to what was described as "a gigantic, roaring fire" in a number of apartments in a buildings near 600 Market Street.

The fire was reported before 9 p.m. Saturday.

Several rental buildings are in a row, most of them old, across the road from MarCap Manor, a residential facility for older citizens.

Calhoun EMS was dispatched to the scene to assist local responders with transporting emergency personnel to the hospital.
