ORMA MAN SENTENCED TO LONG-TERM ADDICTION TREATMENT |

A Calhoun man is getting a chance to treat apparent addiction. Roane County Circuit Court has released Jerry Glen McKown, Jr., 27, of Orma, to participate in a drug rehabilitation program in Cleveland Ohio. McKown has been facing numerous drug-related charges in Calhoun and Roane County. In Roane County, McKown pled guilty last October to attempting to operate a meth lab and was sentenced 1-5 years, but was released on home confinement if he enrolled in a long-term recovery program. While waiting in a Beckley half-way house for an opening, he tested positive on a drug screen for marijuana, and was evicted and was incarcerated. The program, operated by the Salvation Army, takes 12-18 months to complete. Few Calhoun residents get long-time treatment for addiction, either because they refuse, or that openings are not available.
