WILDCATS AT CEDAR CREEK - New Gilmer School Names Mascot And Colors

(03/28/2014)
Pending WV School Building Authority approval in April, the new Gilmer County elementary school at Cedar Creek will have a major influx of "wildcats," the sports teams name selected for the school.

Students from the three schools were polled over recent weeks asking for input about the new teams name, mascot and colors.

The preliminary results were forwarded to the School Planning Committee which approved the suggestions.

The school sports teams name selected was "Wildcats" and the school colors will be black, blue and silver.

There has been significant participation from the school system, community and children in planning the new school.

Gilmer County is anxiously waiting for funding approval from the School Building Authority for construction.

The School Planning Committee, community and architects from Williamson & Shriver have been working tirelessly on the project.

"With all this work, we are six months ahead of schedule" said Ted Shriver, Architect.

The new Cedar Creek school will replace elementary schools at Normantown, Sand Fork and Glenville.

Another elementary school replacing Troy Elementary is being built as a joint project of Gilmer and Lewis counties, being constructed near the county line.
