Firefighters Tom Crouser and OJ Little of the Elizabeth/Wirt VFD perform an entrance attack to combat a home structure fire the morning of July 1 in Elizabeth (Bo Wriston Photo) Quick action by the Elizabeth/Wirt Volunteer Fire Department quickly doused a fire in Elizabeth Monday morning, after a UPS driver spotted smoke coming from a Washington Street dwelling. No one was home when the fire erupted. Wirt County EMS Paramedic Duane Miller administers oxygen to a small Chihuahua held by Wirt County Sheriff D. Keith Wilson. The puppy was rescued by firefighters of the Elizabeth/ Wirt VFD from the home structure fire (Bo Wriston Photo) Firemen indicated the cause of the fire was likely electrical, flames were confined to one room. The Elizabeth-Wirt VFD responded to gas compressor or well fire near Burning Springs Sunday morning, the Grantsville VFD was called for assistance, but returned to station.
