SPENCER CHILD'S DEATH RULED HOMICIDE - Mother Released On $50,000 Bond

(06/06/2002)
A 21-year-old Spencer woman has posted $50,000 bond after being charged in the death of her infant son. Jessica Ferguson, a former resident of Jackson County and New Jersey, has been charged with child abuse by a parent, causing death.

The State Medical Examiner has ruled the death a homicide, linked to the accusation death was caused by intentional injury to the head.

Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley said a private burial will be held for Shea Ferguson, who was dead on arrival at Roane General Hospital last Sunday. Ms. Ferguson and her husband Drew Ferguson, 26, took the infant to the hospital about 8 a.m.

Health care workers reportedly alerted authorities regarding the death, and State Police dispatched a crime scene van to the Ferguson residence.

David Hedges, editor of the Times Record/Roane County Reporter, said Drew Ferguson turned himself in Monday after he reportedly broke a window at the local Department of Health and Human Services building. Other than property damage, he has not been charged in the incident. Click TIMES-RECORD under LINKS.
