METHODIST MINISTER DIES AT 95 - Higgins Was Wirt Resident

Reverend Ezra H. Higgins, 95, of Elizabeth, WV passed away March 25, 2002, at the residence of his daughter.

He was born November 30, 1906, in Elizabeth, a son of the late William and Theodosia Leep Higgins. He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and the Methodist Church Conference. He was a retired minister for the Methodist Church, had been a pastor at Wesleyan Church, Cisco, Rush, Petroleum, Pleasant Hill, Cooley Chapel, Chesterville, Merrill Chapel, Rose Hill, Big Tygart, Rockport, Lowdell, Edgelawn, Gihon, Liverpool, Fairview, Union Chapel and Center Valley churches.

Reverend Higgins was a retired farmer and upholster. He was a former member of the Wirt County Farm Bureau.

Surviving is one daughter, Delores Watkins and her husband, Pastor Robert Watkins of Parkersburg, WV; four grandchildren, Timothy, Mark and John Watkins and Deborah Locke; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Heloise Robinson Higgins, in 1996; one son, Charles Higgins; two sisters, Mildred Dooley and Daisy Wilson; and one brother, Reverend Paul Higgins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Southern Baptist Fellowship Church, Elizabeth, with Pastors Robert Watkins, Timothy Watkins, Mark Watkins, John Watkins and Dana Locke officiating. Interment will follow at the K of P Cemetery, Elizabeth. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
