RICHARD E. LETT - Newark, Wirt County

Mr. Richard E. ''Slim'' Lett, 74, of Newark, Wirt County, died February 16, 2002, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Lett was born Aug. 28, 1927, at Poca, WV, a son of the late John Lett and Mattie Washington Lett Sargent. Slim, as he was fondly known, began his career in the nursery business more than 60 years ago at Conner and Amos Nursery, Kanawha County and later relocated to Wirt County to help found the Little Kanawha Nursery, where he continued to be employed until the time of his death. The nursery and raising rhododendrons was Slim's life. He enjoyed working with and educating his co-workers in the propagation of flora and fauna and nursery management. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing horseshoes at the Wirt County Fair.

He is survived by one brother, Irvin Sargent and his wife Loretta of Waverly, WV; two sisters, Emma Cooper and her husband Gordon of Red House, WV, and Nancy King and her husband Roy of Poca, WV; five nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, the Rev. Robert Stanley officiating. Burial in Fought Cemetery, Newark. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
