GRANTSVILLE WOMAN CITED IN PEDESTRIAN FATALITY

(06/11/2005)
A Grantsville woman has been cited with speeding and driving with no insurance, following the death of a Gilmer County pedestrian on May 31.

State Police Cpl. Doug Starcher said Loretta "Lulu" Rexroad Helmick, 30, of Normantown stepped out in front of a vehicle driven by Samantha Lee Gribble, 25, committing suicide.

Gribble was fined $214 and $123.50 costs for speeding and no insurance.

Authorities indicated no other charges will be brought against Gribble.

Helmick died shortly after being struck by a Dodge Neon after she came on Rt. 5, just west of the Grantsville town limits.

Acquaintances said Helmick had come to Grantsville after being estranged from her husband in Gilmer County, and had been distraught.
