HUR HERALD GETS '$10 MILLION' TO PROMOTE GOOD WORK - A Scam Review For Readers

COMMENT By Bob Weaver

A couple times a month I get a call or e-mail from someone indicating by e-mail, phone, snail mail or in person, suspecting they are being scammed.

Most newspapers and TV media sources have done hundreds of stories about people getting scammed, often elderly people.

I was reminded of this with the receipt of an e-mail telling me I was to receive $10 million dollars from a 59-year-old woman who described herself as a "reverend," who had been diagnosed with cancer and had weeks to live.

She said I had been chosen for my "good work of humanity and also to help the motherless and less privileged and also for the assistance of the widows."

The woman says, "I have been doing God's work for over 30 years, and am also founder of Grace Life Ministries."

The e-mail sought personal information, including some information about my bank account.

It concluded with "May the good Lord bless you abundantly and please use the funds well and always extend the good work to others."

"The Bible made us to understand that blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money..."

It requested to keep the transaction confidential until it is completed.

I can't imagine anyone falling for this, but on the other hand, people do, although the local scams have been more sublime and developed.
