DORCAS HAUGHT CAIN HAS PASSED

Well-known Calhoun woman, Dorcas Haught Cain of Big Bend has died at age 80, following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville, with visitation from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

She had been married for 56 years to Calhoun veterinarian Joe Cain, and was retired from the Cain Veterinary Clinic at Big Bend. She was a graduate of Marshall College.

Among her accomplishments was being a long-time member of the Calhoun Library Board, a supporter of the Calhoun County Library, continuing to advocate for the continued passage of a levy to support library programs.

She was the first woman elected to the Calhoun Board of Education, was active in the Brooksville Baptist Church, with an avid interest in history, and a member of the Pheobe Cunningham Chapter of the DAR.
