Dorcas H. Cain, 80 - Big Bend

Dorcas H. Cain, 80, of Big Bend, West Virginia, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010.

She was born November 24, 1929 in Friendly, WV and grew up on Spring Run, WV. She was the daughter of Horace L. Haught and Gwendolyn Hoskins Haught.

She was married on November 26, 1953 to Joseph T. Cain. She is survived by her husband of 56 years; one daughter, Jane E. Lynch and her husband Keith; two sons, Daniel J. Cain and his wife Barbara, and Richard E. Cain; five grandchildren, Susan, Sarah, and Sam Lynch, and Shaina and Megan Cain. She is also survived by her brothers, James Haught (Wannalee) and H.L. Haught, Jr. (Carol) and many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her mother, father and older sister, and frequent traveling companion Burdeale Wright (Keith).

She attended Calhoun County High School and graduated from Clendenin High School in 1946. She obtained her degree from Marshall College (now Marshall University) and retired from managing Cain Veterinary Clinic.

She loved her grandchildren, traveling, sewing, many pets, music, and teaching. She served Calhoun County as president of the Library Board and was the first female elected to the Board of Education. She was a member of the FHA Board, Brooksville School PTA; Girl Scout Leader, and various other community services. She loved to read and has given away many hundreds, perhaps thousands of books over the years.

She was a member of the Brooksville Baptist Church she had taught Sunday School, Bible School, and served as Librarian. She also belonged to the Phoebe Cunningham chapter of the DAR when it was active in the county.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Calhoun County Library fund and she would encourage you to support the library levy.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 14 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Rev. Charles McDonald will officiate. Interment will be in the Broomstick Cemetery at Five Forks.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
