CALVES FALL FROM TRAILER ON U.S. 33-119 - VFD's Answer Saturday Evening Calls

(04/27/2003)
A driver pulling a trailer with cattle began losing his cargo Saturday afternoon about 2 p.m. on U. S. 33-119 between the Roane-Calhoun line and Liberty Hill. A door on Jack Marks' trailer apparently unlatched and the animals fell or jumped out.

At least four calves tumbled out of the trailer, apparently with little injury. Two calves fell out near the Calhoun-Roane line at Corder Bridge, another on Leatherbark and a fourth on Liberty Hill.

Sheriff Allen Parsons, who responded to the scene, said the calves were being recovered, "hog tied" and placed in adjacent fields to be picked up by the owner.

Members of the Arnoldsburg Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the recovery.

Calhoun Control alerted scanner listeners to stop the driver, who was unaware of the problem.

The Grantsville VFD responded to a truck fire near Foodland Supermarket Saturday evening. The vehicle belonged to Earlewine Concrete. There was minimal damage.

The Upper West Fork VFD responded to a fire two miles up Euclid-Nicut Road at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, to discover a controlled burn of an old wooden building.
