A basic Amateur "Ham" Radio course will be given starting Wednesday February 12, 2003 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center's Education Room located in the Annex Building.

The class will be sponsored by the Pioneer Amateur Radio Association. No fees will be charged except for the cost of a book and a testing fee at the end of the course. For more information contact Ed Messenger at 354-9244 extension 362 or 462-5312 or contact Gerald Davis at 462-8486.

Amateur Radio is a hobby that everyone can enjoy, however, a license is required to operate on Amateur Radio frequencies.

Today, all that is required to obtain a license is passing the Technician class written test.

Years ago to become an amateur operator morse code was required. Today morse code is only required to upgrade to a General or Amateur Extra license; which offers amateur's more operating privileges.
