D-DAY SURVIVOR HOLLY D. EAGLE, JR. HAS PASSED

FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION AWARDS (L to R) Holly D. Eagle Jr., Denver R. Gandee and Walter Criss, now all deceased, at a ceremony inParkersburg recognizing them for receiving the French Legion of Honor for their service in the U.S. Army in World War II in France.

Decorated WWII soldier, Holly D. Eagle, Jr., 95, of Mount Zion has passed.

Eagle was awarded the French Legion of Honor, established by Napoleon in 1802.

Paratrooper Eagle jumped with the 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day, landing at St. Marie Eglise, France. After being wounded, he was placed in the 35th Infantry Division. He fought with them until being wounded the second time at the Rhine River.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Arnoldsburg, WV on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Leary Vanhorn and Rev. Rick Metheney officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. See complete obituary   Holly D. Eagle, Jr.
