There will be a benefit auction Saturday February 1 starting at 6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building, weather permitting. There will be all sorts of goodies, grab bags, 50/50, etc. Proceeds go to maintain the building. Everyone is invited.

Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church. She and Steve provided some special singing.

There has been a revival at the Creston Church.

The Creston Community's regular meeting will be at 7 P. M. on Tuesday, February 4. In addition to routine business there will be an update, etc. on the Creston Post Office situation.

A good crowd was on hand Friday evening for the meeting to keep the Creston Post Office. In addition to local residents there was a group from Macfarlan (also said to be scheduled to be closed) and Wirt County Commissioners Roy Copen & Robert Lowe. It was learned that the proper steps were not followed when the Reedy office was closed. It had been planned to start the petitions but, on advice of one who knows about such matters, the petitions will have specific details which address the local area. The matter will be acted upon at the regular Creston Community meeting on February 4 at 7 P. M. and all are welcome.

Winter continues in the Creston area with ice on the river, snow on the ground and lots of birds at the feeders. One fellow noted that his wood pile had taken a serious hit but he had more ricked up elsewhere. Apparently those global warming folks are still in Baghdad trying to join Saddam's harem or trying to protect the dictator's weapons of mass destruction from American missiles and bombs.

The politically correct crowd still has it in for folks who drive four wheel drive vehicles claiming they pollute and provide unfair advantage in wrecks. One of the big spokespersons against SUVs (as the PC folks call them) has a 21 car garage as well as access to a Lear Jet. One might conclude that they would prefer that the peasants travel in ox carts like they do in Belarus and The Ukraine. But then, that would be bad since cattle burp methane which is "a pollutant".

The old deputy had had a rough day, apparently some young gunslingers had been causing trouble down on the south 40, rustlers had been busy out around the Cartwright ranch, Miss Kitty had some customers who skipped without paying their bills or some such and he had just rode into town on Silver (or maybe it was the Silver Bullet).

Tired from all his activity rounding up outlaws and providing for domestic tranquility, he laid his trusty revolver on the hood of an automobile and attended to other matters, apparently forgetting about its location. Somehow, he turned knocking the firearm down on the street. The gun discharged and killed a tire, dead. Hombres who were elsewhere in the old town square sat up and took notice when they heard live fire.

Anna and Nancy Engelke attended a play in Parkersburg Friday evening. It was said to have been very good.

J. B. Simonton who now works for BJ Services Co. told about when he helped mix mud to kill the Bruce Bell well when Red Adair was here to control the conflagration caused when the well was drilled without pipe and blow out protectors.

Cabot Oil & Gas said that, as policy, they took the profit from their operations in this area and invest it in high risk areas out west. Cabot plans to start a deep well soon near Sissonville. They have two more locations planned, another in eastern Kanawha County and one in Wirt County.

The price of local crude went back up to $29.25.

Anna Engelke was attending to business in Ripley.
