CALHOUN COMMISSION GETS GOOD FINANCIAL REPORT - Expansion Handicapped Chair Lift Moving Forward

(11/11/2015)
The Calhoun Commission received a copy of the official financial report from the State of West Virginia.

Calhoun Clerk Jean Simers said the report reflected appropriate management of county funds with no significant problems.

The commission passed a resolution directed to Dominion Gas to reinstate a 99-year lease or donate their property to Cabot Recycling, the company having been issued an eviction notice.

The Calhoun Public Library advised the commission that the renewal of the library levy would be processed by the Calhoun Board of Education.

Minnie Hamilton Health System reported their EMS ambulance answered 98 calls during October or 3.1 calls per day.

A 911 report for October says the WV State Police responded to 116 calls, the Calhoun Sheriffs Department 18, the Grantsville Police Department 12, WV DNR 5, Grantsville VFD 16, Upper West Fork VFD 2 and Arnoldsburg VFD 5.

Commission president Chip Westfall said the county's personnel handbook would be reviewed in February, 2016.

The dates for the board of equalization and review were set for 2016.

The commission approved a small pay increase requested by Sheriff Carl Ballengee for deputy Jeff Starcher, the pay increase reflects the former pay grade of Chief Deputy Sheriff.

Ballengee told the commissioners he was not re-creating a Chief Deputy position, which has been open since Chief Deputy J. D. Smith resigned earlier this year.

Starcher, who has indicated his intentions to run for sheriff, cannot run under his current deputy status without resigning from his position, but he could run if he had Chief Deputy status.

Forty seven out of 55 counties currently have a Chief Deputy.

Dianne Ludwig with the Little Kanawha Development Corporation said a facilities grant is being put forward for extension of the chairlift system to upper floors of the courthouse.
