DEER KILL MAY BE UP - Hunters Still Want The Bucks, Says Fox

(12/04/2002)
DNR officer Tom Fox said the deer kill appears to be up this year, but hunters still prefer bucks for the sport. The DNR has been trying to thin the doe population in the state, but the doe kill could still be below expectations.

Fox said "Actually, its been a pretty quiet deer season," with below average citations being issued in the area. "There are plenty of opportunities for hunters to kill enough deer, without violating the game laws," he said.

Six Florida men were fined after charged with poaching violations in Jackson County. The hunters were skinning and cutting up at least twelve deer at a camp. None had a West Virginia hunting license and were fined $2,600.

Regional deer kill totals for the first week of gun season will be issued today, and posted on The Herald.
