DR. HENRY BOB BABER FILES FOR US SENATE MOUNTAIN PARTY - Vows To Speak For Common People With Common Sense

(08/01/2014)
Dr. Bob Henry Baber has been nominated by the Mountain Party to run for the United States Senate and will file candidacy papers at the Secretary of State's Office. He will make his official announcement at 10:00 a.m. Friday at 10:30 at the Miner's monument near the Cultural Center.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to speak for people who are disenfranchised with the "business as usual" Republicrats who support coal unconditionally regardless of the safety of miners and the heath of communities effected by the unsustainable process of Mountaintop Removal. I also support full disclosure of all toxic chemicals, by-products and impacts of the rapidly advancing and under-regulated Fracking Industry.

"Capito is the wrong person at the wrong time to represent WV in the Senate. Her record speaks for itself: she took money from Freedom industries and Tom De Lay's crooked Super-Pac, is anti-worker, opposes raising the minimum wage, could care less that 40 million Americans are without healthcare, and has fought against loans for college students.

Capito's record on the environment is atrocious. Natalie Tennant is clearly the lessor of two evils and does hold some progressive views we share, although we must part company on MTR and Fracking.

If the polls are close before the election (but I don't believe they will be) vote for Tennant if you must.

But if your heart speaks to you, vote your conscious and vote Mountain Party for fundamental change.

I don't believe in free rides for the corporations, as do Capito and Tennant or to paying lip service to fake "balancing" of environmental concerns with development.

I love the way God made West Virginia, not the way we are "reclaiming" land in our own pitiful self-image.

I am running for clean water, sustainable economic development, small businesses, education, veterans, senior citizens, and environmentalists. The Mountain Party supports social justice, gay marriage, women and human rights, immigration fairness, the legalization of marijuana nationwide, the preservation of Social Security, universal healthcare, and bringing our troops home with full benefits and optimal medical care. We oppose NSA spying on US citizens.

I know I am the darkest horse to win a US Senate race, but for me speaking the truth without being beholding to any lobbyists, Super-Pacs, party politics or special interests is, in and of itself, a victory. I will neither seek nor accept donations to my populist campaign.

I do hope that should there be any public debates that I will be invited to attend. I challenge my opponents to debate. Dr. Bob Henry Baber was the Mayor of Richwood, West Virginia and during his tenure cleaned up the polluted Cherry River, restored the depot, repaired sidewalks, secured Christian volunteers to fix people's homes, repaired roads, and tore down dilapidated structures, all while saving money.

He is a Kellogg Fellow, a winner of the National Wilderness Society Hero Award for growing the Cranberry Wilderness, was the Director of the WV Veterans Legacy Project and is a widely recognized Appalachian writer and artist.

Baber, 63, has four children, one grandchild, and resides in Greenbrier and Gilmer Counties.
