BURNING SPRINGS OIL HISTORY SLIPPED HISTORY BOOKS

(01/02/2018)
"Burning Springs" is the title of a documentary of the oil and gas industry along the Little Kanawha, particularly the once booming town by the same name in Wirt County.

Before Col. Edwin L. Drake drilled his so-called original oil well in Titusville, Pa., in 1858, oil was flowing at Burning Springs.

Oil and gas historian, the late David McKain, has often said it one of history's unknown stories, most likely because reporters were scarce in the region.

McKain is the author of "Where It All Began," about the regions contribution to the oil and gas industry, and is curator of the Oil and Gas Museum in Parkersburg.

"We want people to know about West Virginia's leading role in the (oil and gas) industry," said MotionMasters CEO Diana Sole Walko. "It's important to stake our claim in history."
