JONES CASE TRANSFERRED TO RITCHIE COUNTY - Alleged Crime Happened In Ritchie, Feet From Calhoun Line, Big Springs Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of Wife

(05/06/2014)
The attempted homicide case against Adam Drew Jones, 29, of Big Springs, has been transferred to Ritchie County authorities, during proceedings Monday in Calhoun Magistrate Court.

Calhoun authorities said the case was moved from Calhoun because the site of the alleged crime was at a residence in Ritchie County, only a few feet from the Calhoun County line.

Preliminary hearings for Jones have been delayed, and bond is yet to be set at Central Regional Jail.

Jones is being represented by Parkersburg attorney Bill Merryman.

He was charged with attempted homicide related to severe trauma allegedly inflicted on his wife, Deana Nelson Jones, 25.

Jones was also charged with kidnapping, malicious assault, wounding, and battery.

Deana Jones has now been released from Women's and Children's Hospital in Charleston.

The criminal complaint issued by Chief Deputy J. D. Smith says Jones did wound the woman "with intent to maim, disfigure, and did attempt to kill."

Deana Jones gave a statement to Calhoun Sheriff Carl Ballengee in a Charleston hospital, that Jones, "Upon her trying to leave...did threaten on numerous occasions to kill her, causing terror for the victim."

The complaint says that Adam Drew Jones caused life-threatening injuries to the woman, and "did repeatedly beat and kick and attempt to kill her."

The Calhoun County Sheriffs Department has been interviewing a number of individuals related to the incident and have reportedly collected a number of items to be used as forensic evidence in the case.
