Harry O. Smith, 82 - Las Cruces, NM

Harry O. Smith, 82, of Las Cruces, N.M., went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 21, 2013.

He was born in Grantsville, W.Va., to the late Seymour Smith and Annie Burrows Smith.

He served in the United States Army between 1952-1967. He was a proud American soldier and a Korean Veteran. In which he served in the 5th Infantry Regiment, he was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.

After being honorably discharged he settled into civilian life with his wife and kids. He worked for the labors union in both West Virginia and New Mexico. After retiring from the labor union he became active in the Baptist Church. When he wasn't serving the Lord he enjoyed reading and taking care of his pets.

He left behind a wife of 13 years, Diane Smith; three sons, Larry Smith, Stephen Smith, Alan Smith, and a daughter Mary Smith; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy M. Smith and infant son, Harry L. Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Scripture Baptist Church on Elks Drive.

The family has requested donations be made to Scripture Baptist Church, 4440 Elks Drive, Las Cruces, NM 88007.
