TWO CALHOUN STUDENTS AWARDED GOLDEN HORSESHOES

Two-hundred and thirty 8th graders from across West Virginia were named Knights and Ladies of the Golden Horseshoe Society during a ceremony at the state Culture Center.

According to state officials, two Calhoun students have received the special honor, Adrianne Shimer, daughter of Jackie Dawson of Big Springs and Matthew Shimer of Annamoriah and Karlie Johnson. daughter of Rob and Crissy Johnson of Arnoldsburg.

Both girls are 8th grade students at Calhoun Middle/High School The students were tops in their county for their knowledge of West Virginia history along with current facts and figures about the Mountain State.

Ritchie: Sydney Campbell, Sarah Cokeley, Davi Stanley; Roane: Faith Bender, Joseph Burch, Thomas Wright; Wirt: Allan Phillips, Joseph Powell.
