FIVE STUDENTS WIN AWARDS AT SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR

Twenty-two students from Calhoun Middle/High School went to the Charleston Civic Center last week to compete in the State's Social Studies Fair or National History Day (NHD). Eleven students competed in the Social Studies Fair, while 9 competed in NHD.

Before heading to the competition, all the students in the school, on both the middle and high school sides of the building, lined the hallways giving hoots and hollers of well wishes as the competitors toured the building. The support and encouragement of the students and staff was inspirational and appreciated.

In order to qualify for the state fair, students first had to win at the county level, and then at the regional fair. Nearly 200 students competed at the county fair, and close to 200 at the regional fair.

Students who made it to the state fair included middle school students Cassidy Conley, Darla Harrison, Destiney Murphy, and Shaylah Wilson. High school students included Makensy Bailey, Chloey Boggs, Hannah Burris, Bailie Cain, Rebbicca Newlon, Amber Prusack, Timothy Richards, Justin Siers, and Josie Whipkey.

Burris, Cain, Newlon, and Siers all earned a 3rd place finish at the state fair. Conley was awarded an Honorable Mention ribbon.
