Welcome back to Beason.

First, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the Steve Knotts family. Steve passed this past week after a job injury. He graduated with me and was an all around good person. He will be missed.

Our Prom Gown Rally in Gilmer County at the TMAD Studio went pretty well. We were amazed at all the people whom supported our project and jumped in to help. We need to thank the Mayor of Glenville, Tashua Allman Duval, for all her help. She is an amazing person as well as a role model especially for the girls that came to the rally. Thank you Tashua!

The Prom Gown Rally will be traveling to Calhoun County on March 23, 2013. Hopefully, we can announce gown drop-off dates very soon. So, clean those closets and pull out those formals. We are looking for gowns that are still in excellent to "like new" condition. If you have some, feel free to contact MyLinda Kimball at 299-1500 or Kathy Taylor at 615-8902. We need to thank Kelli Whytsell for helping us set up this Calhoun County location. I, personally, can't wait to be back in my hometown!

The Ritchie County High School Band is selling strawberries to help with band expenses that have accrued over the year as well as future expenses. We never know what will happen as far as funding, so, we need to save all the money we can. The strawberries are available in a whole flat, a half of a flat and chocolate covered ones. If you would like to buy some and help our band, please contact me. We will appreciate it very much!

Avery's birthday is coming up soon. He didn't ask for much except a game for the Wii, a new bat bag, a new helmet, new batting gloves and the list continues. Yeah, I will get right on all that! Geesh, you would think I was made of money.

I need to make a correction on the last article. After I already emailed my column, I had a chance to talk to Eleanor Six of the Ladies Club. So, my mistake if there was any misunderstanding. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone.

I was so glad to see the sunshine for the last two days. I am done with the winter stuff. It's such a pain to get off this "mountain" even to just go to the bus stop. I don't think the kids want to miss any more days of school either. They are already anxious for school to be over.

We were going to go to Disney over spring break. We have decided to postpone that trip due to lay-offs and such. Avery was concerned that he would miss baseball practice. Imagine that? A kid that is more concerned with missing practice than going to DisneyWorld. That's dedication to the sport right there!

Ethan was talking with me about Kennedy's Inaugural address the other day. He amazes me with his interest in history and how priorities have changed in politics. I had heard the speech before, but, it had been awhile. But, when he pointed it out to me again, I was more than happy to read it. It was a great speech and those who haven't read or heard it, should look it up. The speech will be worth your while.

As usual, I will be ending my column with some words from John F. Kennedy. "Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowing eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures." - John F. Kennedy.
