HEARING RE-SCHEDULED FOR CLAY MAN ACCUSED OF ABUSING CHILD - Glasser Says He's Innocent, Living In 'Religious Cult' Community

(02/15/2013)
A suspected sex criminal who forced a lockdown at six Clay County schools last Friday continues to maintain he is innocent, according to court officials.

Derek Glasser, 39 (left) was to have had a preliminary hearing on sexual abuse charges Thursday, but the hearing was continued because a state policeman who was to testify had an emergency.

Records indicate Glasser had registered a 5-year-old girl at Clay Elementary, but suspicions of neglect had surfaced.

A police investigation ended with sex crime charges, based on fears he would try to remove the child from school. The child has a Mexican birth certificate.

Glasser denied any wrongdoing as the hearing was set to begin Thursday.

Police say they are still trying to determine if Glasser is related to the child or if she was kidnapped before the two began living in an old school bus or a shack at a religious cult compound in Clay County.
