Fire destroys garage and autos

Explosion heard by passerby

A fire destroyed a two-car garage, two vehicles and numerous other equipment at 12:15 today at the Marshal Bever residence on Route 5, one mile east of Grantsville.

Flames leaping from the garage scorched the Bever resident and cracked windows, but Grantsville Volunteer Fire doused the blaze, preventing its spread.

Explosions continued as firemen fought the blaze.

Bonnie Bever said she left about twenty minutes before she heard the fire siren in Grantsville. A passerby said he heard an explosion and called 911.

One of the vehicles in the garage belonged to a family friend. The other was a truck belonging to Bever. "There's lots of stuff in the building that is of value to us," said Ms. Bever.

The Bever family own and operate the Mt. Zion Drive-in Theater.

Grantsville Volunteer Firemen continue to have a record number of fire, accident and emergency calls, according to Fire Chief Dave Johnson.
