Mrs. Martha Harris, Classroom Aide at Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center, has been named the 2011 Service Employee of the Year for Calhoun County Schools. Mrs. Harris retired at the end of the 2011 school year after 31 years of service.

Mrs. Harris began her career in December of 1980 in the Pro-State program at CGCC as an Aide. In 1997 she began a new assignment assisting in the Alternative Learning Center program, also at CGCC.

Martha commented, "I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I had to be a part of the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center".

Mr. Bryan Sterns, Director of Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center had the following to say, "Martha has devoted all of her life to the service of children. She has been an asset to the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center for 30 plus years. She has counseled, mothered, doctored and taught hundreds of students from both Calhoun and Gilmer Counties. Their lives as well as ours have been enriched from her influence. Her services will be missed greatly".

Martha and her husband Harley have been married for 42 years, and are parents of two children, Chief Warrant Officer Doy G. Harris, and Deidra I. McIntyre, an employee of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

They reside just outside Grantsville on Route 5 where they are enjoying retirement.
