Funeral services are today in Spencer at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home for accident victim Cary S. Smith of Newton.

He was a former Deputy Director and dispatcher for Roane County 911. He was a member of the Newton Baptist Church and a 1991 graduate of Spencer High School.

Smith was killed Monday in a two-vehicle collision south of Newton on State Route 36.

It was his 38th birthday.

Four others were reported hurt in the accident, and one was taken by chopper to Charleston Area medical Center.

Most of those victims were members of a CRI weatherization crew from Calhoun County.

Community Resources, Inc. in Grantsville said public information regarding the crew would have to be provided by the Executive Director of CRI in Parkersburg, who was out of the office.

Services for Smith are set for 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in the Zion Hill Cemetery at Elana. Friends can call one hour before the service.
