Cary S. Smith, 38 - Newton

Cary S. Smith, 38, of Newton, West Virginia, died Monday, August 1, 2011, from injuries he received in a two motor vehicle accident, south of Newton on W.Va. Route 36.

He was born August 1, 1973, in Charleston, the son of Stephen B. and Wanda L. Tawney Smith of Newton.

Cary was a 1991 graduate of Spencer High School. He was a former deputy director and dispatcher of Roane County 911. He was a member of the Newton Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, survivors include paternal aunts and uncle, Madlyn Backus of Accokeek MD, Marian Harold of Newton and Kenneth E. Dolan of Newton; maternal aunts, Freda M. Smith of North Ridgeville OH and Joyce Moore of Dixie; many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rex H. and Ottie E. Tinney Smith; and his maternal grandparents, George W. and Lula E. McClain Tawney.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 4 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Elana.

Friends may call Thursday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
