CALHOUN LEADS STATE WITH UNEMPLOYMENT

(03/29/2011)
Workforce West Virginia says 27 counties reported lower unemployment rates in February.

Rates in 21 counties increased while seven counties reported no changes.

Workforce WV says Calhoun County has the highest unemployment rate in the state for the month of February at almost 20%.

The regional counties had among the state's highest unemployment rates.

Part of the high unemployment number for Calhoun is related to seasonal construction and drilling workers being off work because of winter weather.

Monongalia County's 6.3 percent unemployment rate was the lowest in the state.

West Virginia's overall unemployment rate was unchanged at 10.3 percent.
