The landlord of rented lots or mobile homes at County Lanes, Mt. Zion, has been fined by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection for problems related to a sewage treatment plant.

Tyrone J. Tuel of Suffield, Ohio was assessed a civil administrative penalty of $2,350, to be made in four payments during 2011.

Tuel purchased the mobile home park a few years ago.

Occupants and visitors of the park have long complained about smelling raw sewage and other problems related to the disposal of waste, and the DEP-Division of Water and Waste Management inspected the treatment plant.

They discovered "solids leaving the clarifier, the roll in the aeration basin was weak ... resulting in sludge and sand on the ground," among other problems.

The DEP says that Tuel failed to operate and maintain equipment at Country Lanes sewage treatment facility. They reported 13 violations from 2008 through 2010.

The DEP report indicates Tuel was not responsive in properly maintaining the plant, saying Tuel shall immediately take all measures to initiate compliance with terms of his permit.
