Poling says he will have an open door
policy as the new center director

Calhoun County Committee on Aging has a new executive director, former Calhounian Rick Poling, returning to the county from Charlotte NC, after a 25-year absence.

Poling was appointed by the CCCOA board to replace out-going director Mike Ritchie, who is now the Calhoun County Clerk.

Poling met with board members and facility employees this week. "I'm honored to be the next executive director," saying the senior center is in the business of improving the quality of people's lives.

The board appointed two new board members, Roberta Wilson of Big Springs and Patricia Hicks of Chloe, joining current board members Pam Gainer, Roger Jarvis, Ed Lawaty, Rev. Carroll McCauley, Dottie Williams and Barbara Roberts.

Assistant CCCOA Director Brenda McBride has resigned.

"Calhoun County is a great place and the sense of community is wonderful," Poling said, with a goal for 2011 to provide the best service to the most seniors.

"I feel like I'm exactly where I should be right now. As one who grew up in Calhoun County, attended WVU undergrad and law school, and represented my University and State in many capacities and places as the WVU "Mountaineer," I have always considered West Virginia home," he said.

"Blessed with an insightful and productive Board of Directors and staff through the past several years, CCCOA is a strong and vibrant organization that has clearly defined and accomplished its goals of service to the seniors of Calhoun County."

Poling said he was very much aware of the newest group of seniors, the baby boomers.

"We live in a time when the "senior" segment of the U.S. population will not only become by far the largest segment of our population, but will continue to widen ... At CCCOA, we will likely see a fifty year span in our senior's ages in the not-so-distant future."

Poling said some initial projects he is undertaking is a new website for the center, an improved inner-agency communication system, and an improved checks and balances system with the agencies finances.

He expressed his appreciation to Brenda McBride, Brenda Sisson and Maricia Mlynek for their assistance with the transition.
