Alpha Retta Coberly Miles Osborn, 109 - Cedar Creek Native

Alpha Retta Coberly Miles Osborn age 109 departed this life at 6:55 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Pierpont Center, Fairmont following an extended illness. She was born in Gilmer County a daughter of the late Daniel L. and Ella Jane Rhoades Coberly.

Her early years were spent in Gilmer County where she then married, moved to Akron, worked and retired from Firestone Rubber Company. She attended Akron Baptist Temple for numerous years. She was an avid photographer and crafter and loved to travel.

She was first married to Ed Miles in 1920 and he preceded her in death in 1951 and then to Elden Osborn in 1955 who preceded her in death in 1982.

She is survived by only one sister-in-law, Mrs. Champ (Ruby) Coberly of Glenville and several nieces and nephews, Edith Louise Clark, Paul Coberly, Bernard Coberly, Betty Jean Patteson, Bobby Coberly, Roland Coberly, Alpha Lee Gerwig, Gary Coberly, Marlene Collins, Verna Dean Ellis Sheets and Ella Belle Coen. Several nieces and nephews preceded her in death.

Alpha was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters, Art, Artho, Isom and Champ Coberly; Arnetta Brown, Beatrice Furr, Arminta Brown, Vera Ellis and Edith Cook McQuilken.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 2nd, 2011 at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Grove Cemetery at Linn.

Friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary.
