Fifth and 6th grade students at Calhoun Middle High School are taking great pride in improving their school and community. One of the goals this school year is to gain pride in school, community, county, and state. The best way for the middle school student to gain pride in their community is by participating in some type of community service.

Fifth and 6th graders have been working very hard on raising money and materials for the Humane Society of Roane County. The students are very excited about helping animals and they have been bringing in a lot of money they have been saving. Most students love animals and they are so happy to be helping animals that are in need. They are also bringing in items to donate including bleach, newspapers, dog and cat food, kitty litter and toys. If you know a 5th or 6th grader and you would like to support their cause and the Humane Society please donate any of the items listed above.

The 6th graders have helped to beautify their school by planting flower bulbs in many of the flower gardens surrounding the school. In Mrs. Hills Science class they have been learning all about plants. At the end of the lesson they each were given a Daffodil bulb and they planted them in the flower gardens. The 6th graders planted over 80 flower bulbs that will bloom in the spring. The bulbs were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Hill of Harrisville WV.

The 5th graders have also been working to beautify the school. During recess several students have voluntarily walked around the playground and picked up trash. They like to work and they love to see the difference they are making in the school.
