METZ ARRESTED FOLLOWING SHOOTING-GRENADE INCIDENT |

A 32-year-old Calhoun man has been arrested by the State Police for his alleged role in an early Sunday morning shooting incident on Nobe Road, where a deactivated hand grenade was thrown into a yard.Charles Ray Metz (pictured left) has been charged with destruction of property, wanton endangerment and conspiracy to commit a felony. He is being held in Central Regional Jail on $45,000 bond. The incident happened at the Norma Joy Freshour residence, where she lives with her three children. A criminal complaint says, "James Blankenship and Charles Metz drove by their [Freshour] residence and shot a 1994 Chevy truck three times with a 12-gage shotgun, causing in excess of $2,500 damage." The complaint says Metz pointed a gun out the passenger side of a white 1994 Subaru, the vehicle was allegedly driven by James Blankenship. Police found a spent Winchester 12-gage shell at the scene and later in a truck reportedly used by the duo. Blankenship, 25, was arrested late Thursday night on the same charges. Thursday afternoon, four days after the shooting and grenade incident, the Freshour house was burned to the ground. Neighbors are claiming they saw subjects approaching the Freshour house with sheets over their head, after which the house was engulfed in flames. State Police and the State Fire Marshall is investigating what appears to be arson. In 2008, the Freshour family residence burned to the ground on Big Root. Norma Joy Freshour told the Herald at that time that the fire was set, but no arrests were made. See related stories
