RECESSION WATCH: WV Housing Foreclosures Up 24%, Calhoun Has Five In Three Years |

| State officials are saying mortgage foreclosures in the Mountain State rose 24 percent in 2009 compared with the year before. Division of Banking commissioner Sally Cline said state-chartered and national banks headquartered in West Virginia accounted for just 12 percent of the 3,200 foreclosures last year. Berkeley and Jefferson Counties accounted for more than half of the statewide increase. Nineteen counties reported 14 or fewer foreclosures for the year. Fifteen counties saw a drop in the number of reported foreclosures. During a three year period, 2007-2008-2009, foreclosures totaled: Braxton 30 Calhoun 5 Clay 11 Gilmer 6 Ritchie 31 Roane 43 Wirt 20
