CORBITT WILL BE WIRT'S CHIEF DEPUTY

Wirt County is getting a new Chief Deputy, according to Sheriff D. Keith Wilson, Jr.

Wilson has hired retired WV state policeman Travis D. Corbitt, saying he will start December 1st.

"This position of Chief Deputy and funds have not been available to the Wirt County Sheriff Department until now," said Wilson.

Corbitt just resigned as the police chief for the City of Spencer.

He resides with his family on Stutler's Run. Graduating from Wirt County High School in May of 1981, he went to the United States Air Force where he served over five years as a police/security officer.

Corbitt went to the WV State Police Academy after leaving the military, serving twenty years as a WV State Trooper.

"As the Sheriff of Wirt County I feel that Travis D. Corbitt will be a valuable asset to the Sheriff's Department. He is a long time resident of Wirt County and this is where his heart is," said Wilson.

Corbitt has also agreed to become Wirt County's Home Confinement Officer.

"This will enable the courts to sentence offenders to Home Confinement and the Wirt County Sheriff Department will be able to effectively monitor the program," Wilson said,

The sheriff said this change will alleviate some of the cost that the county incurs to house inmates in the regional jail.
