Rev. Carlos Nutter & a Gideon speaker were at the Burning Springs M. E. church. On July 19 there will be no services at Burning Springs but there will be a picnic with services at the Sportsman's Park in Elizabeth. Folks should plan to attend, bring a covered dish, friends & family, etc and arrive before 10 A. M.

The big Creston ATV poker run is scheduled for Saturday, July 18. Signup starts at 9 A. M. at the Creston Community Building. If there are no typhoons nor floods during the week the route will take folks on some roads they didn't even know existed as well as by lots of mud holes, play pens and steep hills to test out one's skill or just prove how easy it is to roll a four-wheeler over. Caution and care are essential to have a fun filled ride. Brakes, fuel systems and tires should be checked before coming to Creston. Bald tires just won't 'cut it'.

While checking out the route Jack Nutter got stuck in a big mud hole and had to be extricated. Those who like to play in the mud should bring along tow straps, winches, a change of clothes and such.

Chancy Shaw, Jack & Ronnie Nutter and Alvin Engelke were calling on Kathy, Kenny & Kyle Collins.

Donna Boley, Anna & Larry Border, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Lowe, Sr. & Jr., Logan Lowe, Richard Lowe, Charles Murray, Rob Kimes, Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Poling, Mr. & Mrs. John Nicholais, Alvin & Nancy Engelke were among those who attended a wiener roast and picnic at the residence of Steve & Mary Ann van Clief.

For those who aren't into four wheeling there will be a "Say No to Cap & Trade" Town Hall Meeting, starting at 10:30 A. M. on Saturday, July 18 at the Cultural Center Theater in the Capitol Complex down at the Mouth of the Elk. Among the speakers will be Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito, Coach Don Nehlen & Charles Wilfong, president of the W. Va. Farm Bureau. Everyone is invited to attend. The so-called cap & trade bill is a massive tax on everyone (not just those who make more than $250,000) who uses any sort of energy for any reason.

Meanwhile Albert Gore, Jr. the High Priest of the Church of Anthropomorphic Global Warming noted that the president said that [with the new tax] utility bills would skyrocket but Gore said "Those taxes are good." He also noted that "his plan" to 'combat global warming' would be driven by global government and global agreements. While all this idiocy is going on global cooling continues unabated in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

The Creston Community business meeting was held last Tuesday and nominees were chosen for next year's officers. A plaque was given Rodney Lynch for his work with the ATV poker runs, apparently much to his surprise. Also the new cookbooks are in for those have been waiting. The books cost $8.00 each and are ideal things for Christmas gifts, etc.

While the price of local natural gas has been hitting historic lows (with inflation taken into account) lease agents have been contacting people wanting to acquire leases which pay net royalties, do not allow for accounting, ignore free gas rights, take away one's right to go to court and give rights that have yet to be defined. Also these new leases give perpetual pipe line rights-of-way across land even if there are no longer producing wells on the premises. As one might say, "Such a deal!"

The price of local Penn grade crude oil fell to $53/bbl or $10/bbl less than the average price for June oil production.

Most of the Dominion class action paperwork is due to be postmarked by July 17 while the CNR/Chesapeake paperwork is due July 31.

The deer are in the velvet and they have been consuming gardens and apples that the crows knock off the trees. Venison is tasty but it is nice to have vegetables to go with the meal.

Local residents have been receiving tax bills and assessment forms for next year. Farm use reports are due by the end of August.

A man from Doddridge County was arrested for the murder of the couple on Sycamore. According to published reports, they were dope dealers and they had an argument over money.

The Wirt County Farm Bureau will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, July 21 at 8 P. M. at the fire station in Elizabeth.
