MAN PLEADS GUILTY OF SHOOTING TEEN - A St. Albans man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the fatal shooting of a teenager during turkey hunting.

Twenty-year-old Andrew Scott Hardin pleaded guilty to a felony and two misdemeanors.

Hardin shot 16-year-old St. Albans resident Nicholas Lee Caldwell while hunting in April 2008.

Hardin told police at the time of the shooting he mistook Caldwell for wildlife.

Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, Hardin faces a year in prison.

He pleaded to one count of wanton endangerment and two misdemeanors: killing a person while hunting and failure to render aid.

Kanawha County Circuit Judge Duke Bloom scheduled sentencing for May 29.

STAND-OFF IN HUNTINGTON - The incident began as an armed robbery and turned into a standoff at the 29th Street pharmacy. It ended peacefully.

Zachary Melba has been charged with first-degree robbery.

The magistrate set a $100,000 bond for the defendant's release.

FAIRMONT PHYSICIAN ARRESTED - A Fairmont physician was arrested last week and charged with wanton endangerment.

Kevin Michael Clarke, 47, was arrested by Marion County Sheriff's deputies after a neighbor filed a complaint.

Marion County Sheriff Joe Carpenter said the neighbor called police to report that she had found bullet fragments in her house.

Deputies investigated the scene and discovered "several" bullet holes.

Officers traced the path of the bullets and determined that they had come from Clarke's home.

"The officers found several exit holes in his (Clarke's) house," Carpenter said.

Clarke allegedly discharged the firearm from inside his own residence, said the complaint.

Carpenter said the two homes were approximately 70 feet apart.

Carpenter said Clarke came outside and surrendered to officers without incident.
