LKACF WORKING TO MEET BABCOCK CHALLENGE

(04/23/2008)
The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF), serving Calhoun and Wirt Counties, is working to meet a challenge grant from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation.

The Babcock Foundation awarded a $10,000 challenge grant to LKACF to help build its asset base. This is the third challenge grant awarded to LKACF from the Babcock Foundation.

In order to successfully complete this challenge, LKACF must raise $10,000 from the community; once the $10,000 is raised, the Babcock Foundation will match it with $7,500, which can be spent out immediately to help the community. Also, 50 percent of the $10,000 raised must be in non-cash assets, such as stock, life insurance, planned gifts, etc. The deadline for this challenge to be completed is April 30, 2008.

The first two challenge grants awarded to LKACF from the Babcock Foundation were both successfully completed. These grants also allowed LKACF to award over $10,000 back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations over the last two years.

LKACF was established in 2004 as an affiliate of Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF). PACF is a successful regional community foundation that was established in 1963, and currently holds approximately $25 million in assets.

LKACF's purpose is to build permanent funds that will support charitable causes in Calhoun and Wirt Counties forever. Currently, LKACF holds approximately $78,000 in permanent assets and has six separate charitable funds.

LKACF has an Advisory Board made up of interested individuals who work to build the assets and visibility of LKACF. This Advisory Board includes Jim Bennett, Chair; Fred Rader, Vice Chair; Diane Ludwig, Pat Lydon, Karen Caltrider, Dan Metz, Alvin Engelke, Dee Scritchfield, Russ Cline, Bill Howley, Jim Bruce, Carrie Brainard and Sandy Osborne.

Gifts for the LKACF-Babcock Foundation Challenge can be sent to LKACF, P.O. Box 944, Elizabeth, WV 26143. LKACF, by virtue of its affiliation with the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Therefore, all donations made to LKACF are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

To learn more about the LKACF-Babcock Foundation Challenge or LKACF in general, please contact any Advisory Board member or Sarah Holt, LKACF Representative, by calling 304-428-4438 (toll free 1-866-428-4438) or by e-mail at sarah.holt@pacfwv.com
