High winds downed a tree near Joker Thursday evening at 4:30 p.m., breaking the power
lines and causing the woods to catch fire. Karen Kirby discovered the fire traveling down
Bryner Road (Lemuel's Run) on her way home from Calhoun Middle/High School. She alerted
neighbor Jane Lynch, who brought tools to the fire and the women went into action.

Grantsville firemen complete the job
The Grantsville VFD was summoned to the scene, with winds gusting to 30 miles per hour.
Fire Chief Dave Johnson said the women had the fire under control when the department
arrived. In a few minutes the blaze would have spread into woods, out of control.
