5" snow in uptown Hur

The first snow storm of the new year closed public schools in at least 40 counties yesterday, including Calhoun.

Locally, it was the first significant snow of the winter.

In the Village of Hur, which is high on a Calhoun hilltop and is known for its weather anomalies, the accumulation is about 5 inches. In most areas of the county it is much less.

Winter storm warnings remain in effect for parts of West Virginia early today, with additional snow accumulation around an inch.

It will be a cold morning with temperatures around 14.

Today it will be cloudy with a slight chance of snow showers, mostly sunny in the afternoon with a high in the 20s.

Thursday night it will be mostly clear with a low around 12. Mostly clear. Friday will have highs in the lower 40s.

Saturday will be sunny, with a warming trend continuing.
