OHIO DEER HUNTER DIES OF HEART ATTACK - Wirt Deer Camp Explosion Injures Hunters

(11/19/2007)
Deer hunting season has gotten off to a tragic start with the death of a 66-year-old hunter from Orville, Ohio.

He died in the woods this morning on Sears Run near Minnora.

Calhoun EMS and the Upper West Fork VFD responded to the scene mid-morning, but the man was reportedly dead when emergency services arrived.

An explosion at a deer camp on Windy Ridge in Wirt County has sent three hunters to regional hospitals, suffering from burns.

The Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department says one of the men was trying to light a burner to make a pot of coffee and didn't realize there was a propane leak.

The explosion knocked off part of the camper roof.

Parts of I-77 had to be shut down for HealthNet choppers who took one of the victims to Charleston Area Medical Center and another to Cabell Huntington Hospital. The third man was taken to Camden-Clark, in Parkersburg.

The identity of the victims have not been released.
