PLEA HEARING SET FOR FORMER GRANTSVILLE POLICE CHIEF

(11/06/2007)
A plea hearing is scheduled today at 1 p.m. in Grantsville for former Grantsville Police Chief Ron Gordon, who has been accused of sexually abusing women under his supervision while he was a municipal officer and the home confinement officer for Calhoun County.

Gordon entered a not guilty plea before Judge David Nibert in Calhoun Circuit Court earlier this year.

Gordon is represented by Ernie Skaggs, with Tom Kirk as the special prosecutor.

The case against Gordon was brought by the West Virginia State Police.

Indictments were brought in May, with Gordon being charged with:

- Four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree

- Two counts of sexual assault in the second degree

- One count of sexual abuse in the second degree

- One count of attempt to commit sexual assault in the second degree

- One count of nighttime burglary

An indictment is not an indication of guilt; rather, it means a grand jury has found sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.
