After years of being unable to find a buyer, the old Weston State Hospital is going on the auction block.

The huge cut-stone Civil War-era psychiatric facility located in Weston, West Virginia, closed in 1994.

The Department of Health and Human Resources has scheduled the auction for August 29th, to be sold to the highest bidder.

Weston hospital is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark.

Such designation will not prevent a new owner from tearing it down.

David Hildreth says the state spent nearly two million dollars on upkeep and security since it has been closed.
