Pioneer fans will soon see the famous Nike "swoosh" prominently displayed at sporting events, on footwear and athletic apparel at the school.

Glenville State College announced the signing of a three-year agreement Tuesday. Athletic director, Steve Harold and Dixie Sporting Goods (DSG) representatives characterized the agreement as one where everybody benefits.

The agreement represents the first of its kind with Glenville State College. DSG representatives said the college now has a corporate sponsor.

All athletic teams will transition into Nike products as they replace equipment. Specific terms of the agreement were not released, but the college will receive promotional items and additional discounts due to the exclusive contract.

"You've got a great athletic department here," said Todd Northrop, regional sales manager for DSG. "It's very solid."

Northrop said the historical successes of Pioneer athletics and, in particular The Lady Pioneers, added to the incentive for his company to be officially aligned with the school.

"We're happy to be involved with such a quality athletic program," Northrop said. Both Northrop and Corey Litton, team sales representative, were in Glenville today.

Steve Harold, athletic director and head coach of the Lady Pioneers, said the agreement will be a continuing asset for Glenville State College.

Apparently this is the type of agreement often sought after by Division II schools, but difficult to achieve.

Locally, Dixie Sporting Goods has offices in Marietta, Ohio. The company, based in Richmond, VA has regional representatives in seven states and is a division of Collegiate Pacific. The company also represents teams such as the Carolina Panthers and the Washington Redskins.
