CALHOUN MAN CHARGED WITH WANTON ENDANGERMENT - State Police Special Response Team Activated

(10/07/2006)
A serious situation ended without tragedy today, with a Calhoun County man being charged with two counts of wanton endangerment after he reportedly shot twice through a neighbor's house and shot toward his wife about 11:30 a.m. today.

His wife, Patsy Buvoltz, fled to a neighbor's house, calling 911.

Calhoun Sheriff Carl Ballengee and three of his deputies and State Policemen Jeff Hunt responded to the call. A State Police Special Response team with a chopper also responded, with officers closing the rural roads near the Buvoltz house.

Stephen Buvoltz, 50, obtained firearms from his Jesse's Run residence this morning and wandered around the rural area. He then drove to Earline Lynch's house a short distance away, about 2 p.m.

Lynch, who knew Buvoltz, said she spent time trying to comfort him. "He has been a really good neighbor," she said, indicating he was very confused and ill.

Buvoltz then left the Lynch house and was sitting in his pick-up truck in her drive-way when police took him into custody.

A family spokesperson indicated Buvoltz suffers from a bi-polar disorder, had been drinking heavily and not been taking his medication.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he was "really out of it, not making any sense."

The WV State Police did not respond to a public information request regarding this incident.
